Contemporaneity as such and consequently contemporary art, too, avoids categorization. As a result it is somehow paradoxical to introduce the terms while thinking and talking about this field. With that in mind, the terms are not meant here as fixed classifications; instead, we propose using them as tools and guidelines to help discover how to navigate through and within the vast plurality of contemporary art practices. The terms offer basic explanations, and through the description of specific art practices they relativise the art-historical definitions we find in the collections of Museum of Contemporary Art Zagreb, Fundació Antoni Tàpies from Barcelona, Museum of Contemporary Art Vojvodina and Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Koroška from Slovenj Gradec.
